Orton Junction:
Impacts On the Puyallup Valley

by Maxine Herbert-Hill

SURFACE WATER IMPACT

There was quite a bit of testimony on the surface water and flooding in the area.  One local resident testified that in the past ten years, there have been three 50-year floods on the very property of the Orton Junction.  The County is currently in a flood management study that is to be completed next year.  I suggested that the Council post pone decision on this UGA amendment until that study is completed and they knew better what the issues actually are with this land.  But they made no comment on that and as you know, went right ahead with passing it.
